4. Arrival & starting your stay
Procedure
This varies on your current place of residency.
You do not already live in Switzerland
You need a residence permit, regardless of citizenship or visa requirement.
You already live in Switzerland
You should have a valid Swiss residence permit and therefore have two options: “Wochenaufenthalt” (weekly commuter) or “Kantonswechsel” (change of canton, to be applied for in advance).
Always keep your address up to date.
Note:
- Post is only delivered if the name of the recipient is on the letterbox. Either put your name on the letterbox or (if you are subletting) have your post sent c/o to the name of your proprietor. Include your room or flat number if there is one (e.g. in student residences).
- Inform the responsible Residents’ Registration Office, your health insurance company, your bank or post office, FCS, and the Reception Service as well as any other office you maintain business with of any address change.
First two instalments
- From 1 September you can pick up your first two instalments at the cash desk (room HG F 67.1, main building / "Hauptgeb?ude").
- Potential support for rental cost of CHF 300 will be paid one-time with your first scholarship instalment.
Further instalments
- Add your Swiss PostFinance or bank account details in Mobility-Online no later than four weeks after your arrival. (AVETH's "survival guide" offers information on banks if you want to inform yourself.)

Anmerkung sbe
- "Where can I ..." gekürzt im Vergleich zur Welcome-Seite, weil...
- "find the different ETH buildings?": bereits auf "Assistance for your start at ETH"
- "park my bike [...]", "learn the timetable of the shuttle bus [...]", "learn about the Swiss public transport system [...]": zusammengefasst in "learn about about transport [...]" mit Link auf "Living in Switzerland"
- "work out, sign up for various sport programmes, etc.?": bereits auf "Assistance for your start at ETH"
