Collaborative learning environment for all employees

Lifelong Learning Hub (L3H) is the name of the new learning environment that looks to the future by allowing ETH employees to shape their own personal and professional development. It is a platform for an active and collaborative learning culture where knowledge is shared and learning content is shaped collectively. L3H will be rolled out gradually. By the end of the year all employees will be invited to join the L3H learning community.

In a rapidly changing world that constantly presents new challenges, continuous acquisition of knowledge and ongoing personal development are needed to ensure we are ready to meet future requirements. This is exactly the purpose of the Lifelong Learning Hub, available to all staff by the end of the year via Microsoft Teams. The new platform creates a space where all users have flexible access to a varied range of learning content tailored to individual needs, at a time and place that suits them. The format ranges from on-site workshops to podcasts and online courses.

Active involvement in the learning process

The focus is on a collaborative learning culture: “We want to create an environment that encourages users to share knowledge in a decentralised structure and actively shape their own development,” says Vice President Julia Dannath in explaining the vision of the Lifelong Learning Hub. Her office, the Vice Presidency for Personnel Development and Leadership, is responsible for L3H. “The idea is to look towards the future – both on an individual level and as an entire organisation – and to grow, so that collectively we remain competitive, dynamic and innovative.”

In concrete terms, users will be able to contribute ideas for new learning content and give feedback on existing content. The exchange of ideas within the learning community across different levels and organisational units is also encouraged. In this way L3H will continuously develop and improve. In terms of content, the focus is on the ETH Social and Leadership Competencies, so they can be embedded more firmly and developed to the full, depending on individual situations and requirements.

Maximising the university’s potential

L3H will be gradually rolled out. By the turn of the year, all ETH employees will have access. Users will be informed by e-mail as soon as L3H is available to them. They will be invited to embark on their own individual learning path, proactively contribute their experiences and knowledge, and benefit from other users. “I am inspired by the idea of using the Lifelong Learning Hub to develop the unique potential within the university even more intensively to benefit the entire ETH community,” stresses Julia Dannath.

Phased rollout till the end of the year

L3H will be rolled out gradually to all ETH Zurich employees by the end of 2023. You will receive all the necessary information via e-mail to tell you when you are able to access L3H via Microsoft Teams.

You will find more information and FAQs in the Lifelong Learning Hub.
