The Collection of Astronomical Instruments on E-Pics
With its holdings of around 300 objects, the historical collection of instruments from the former Eidgen?ssische Sternwarte Zurich is now available online on E-Pics.
You will find several digital images, 360° views and content-related information on each object. The images can also be downloaded for free.
The collection is centred on the holdings of Rudolf Wolf, the first professor of astronomy at the Eidgen?ssisches Polytechnikum in Zurich and founder and first Director of the Eidgen?ssische Sternwarte Zurich. The instruments from the fields of astronomy, geodesy, chronometry and mathematics stem from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries.
The online catalogue also contains instruments that we still do not know much about. We would be delighted if you could provide any feedback via the function "Do you know more?" Help us to complete the datasets by dating or describing the objects more accurately.
