The Informatiktage 2024 will take place from 18 to 23 March 2024. The Department of Computer Science and the IT Services of ETH Zurich invite you to a carefully curated programme. It offers something for everyone - from curious beginners to experienced experts. ?

This year, the Wolfgang Pauli Lectures will highlight the CRISPR technology, its origins and its current applications in research and medicine. The speaker is Jennifer Doudna, the 2020 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry.

The new barrier-free forecourt of the Main Building will be fully available as of early 2024. Completion has been delayed due to an objection and the resulting late start of production in the quarry.

This morning, part of the courtyard around the Semper Observatory was closed off and a crane was set up to lift a telescope out of the dome. In late August, the original telescope from the founding year 1864 will be reassembled inside the observatory.

The area around the ETH main building is changing: a new university hospital, the FORUM UZH and a caf¨¦ will be built by the end of the decade. The opening of the development and laboratory building on the Gloriarank (GLC) site has been delayed once again. According to the current planning status, the professorships will be able to start moving in from autumn 2022, and the building will open for the 2023 spring semester. Both teaching and research at ETH are affected significantly by the delay.

ETH Zurich is evolving: the coming years will see not only the construction of new buildings, but also the transformation of interior space and office concepts. A townhall has been held to inform ETH members about architectural developments at ETH Zurich.

Over the past few months, ETH Zurich has been improving the historical area around the ETH observatory to make it a more attractive place to socialise and find peace and quiet. Other projects, such as the current redevelopment of the main building forecourt, will improve the overall quality of the exterior spaces in the university district.

The Polybahn is about to undergo a complete renovation and will therefore be closed from 30 May to 17 September 2021.

With its new building on the Gloriarank site (GLC), ETH Zurich is creating a modern development and laboratory building for Health Sciences and Technology at its Zentrum campus. The site will house 13 professorships from the HEST and ITET departments. But with building works delayed, they will have to wait a little longer. ETH expects operations to begin there in 2022.

ETH Zurich will not complete a major expansion and renovation project of the canteen and multi-purpose building, which includes the Polyterrasse (¡°Renovation MM¡±). The MM building and Polyterrasse will remain in their current state and will not be expanded. However, in an initial phase, mandatory technical refurbishments will be completed.

By 2030, the Zurich City university district is set to undergo major changes. ETH will renovate its canteen and multi-purpose building under the Polyterrasse as well as the main building and forecourt. USZ and UZH will build a new hospital as well as an education and research centre. The streets, cycle paths and green spaces will be redesigned.

VIScon Digital is set to take place in ETH¡¯s main building from 5 to 10 October, and will be streamed online. All ETH employees are invited to attend. The talks, presentations and events will offer insights into current trends in and around the field of computer science, including developments relating to the coronavirus pandemic.

The ETH Link will run on electricity from the beginning of the semester. Starting on 14 September 2020, electric articulated buses will link the H?nggerberg campus with the Zentrum campus. Alongside the ¡°eLink¡± connection, there will be new charging stations for electric vehicles and more services for e-bikes.

For two months, ETH Zurich operated in emergency mode. During this time, the vast majority of buildings, lecture halls, laboratories and offices remained empty. Two photographers visited ETH in April in order to capture a largely deserted campus with only a few people still on site.
