Internal job advertisments

We refer to an internal transfer when employees perform a new or a comparable function within ETH. In this context, the focus is on IT, technical and administrative functions as well as on management roles within ETH.

Open positions will be advertised both internally and externally. In the case of fixed-term assignments such as project assignments or substitutions (maternity leave, longer absences, etc.) there is an option for advertising the position internally only.

Employee development

We recommend discussing your career with your supervisor in your annual appraisal interview recording your ideas and expectations for your further professional development.

Further professional development within ETH can be pursued either in your current function (projects or extended and more challenging responsibilities) with the assistance of your supervisor or through an internal job change.

ETH Zurich gladly supports you offering the following continuing education and support opportunities:

Job application

Before filing an internal application, you should evaluate your current professional situation and put forward suggestions for your further professional development. Define your expectations regarding an internal job change. Prepare your documents as carefully and completely as for an external application.

All applications will be reviewed carefully, the interviews are conducted confidentially and all candidates will receive feedback.

References are obtained in agreement with the candidates and will be treated confidentially.

In the case of an internal job change, no resignation is required. Discuss your job change with your current supervisor. Thereafter, HR Consulting will take the next steps.

Supervisors as well as employees generally follow the statutory notice periods in accordance with the ETH Personnel Ordinance (DownloadBrochure (PDF, 6.4 MB)). Shorter notice periods may be granted with the consent of the current and new supervisors. The individuals involved agree on the job change date. The new HR Partner confirms the job change date agreed upon.
