Rolf Frischknecht wins Award in Life Cycle Assessment

Rolf Frischknecht, a lecturer at the Department of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS), has been given the EDANA Award for Lifetime Achievement in Life Cycle Assessment by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC).

Rolf Frischknecht is especially known for his leading role from 1998 to 2008 in the design, development, implementation and operation of the life cycle inventory database ecoinvent laying a solid ground for its sustainable recognition and worldwide success. "His major methodological contributions cover allocation in joint production and recycling, decision oriented Life Cycle Assessment, as well as key developments within the Ecological Scarcity Method, such as the first regionalized water scarcity indicator", writes the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry SETAC.

SETAC strives to honour and recognize outstanding contributions to the environmental sciences by means of the Awards Programme. The EDANA Award for Liefetime Achievement in Life Cycle Assessment is awarded every two years since 2010.
