Billing and Refund - European Health insurance card

How to claim your money back

A) After a visit to the doctor

Note: there is a external pagelump sum of CHF 92 (the amount you have to pay yourself) per case of sickness within the frame of 30 days. Example: in case of fever you can see a doctor 4 times within 30 days and pay CHF 92 only once.

  1. Wait for the doctor’s bill that is usually sent to your address a few weeks after the treatment. The letter includes the bill with a payment slip and a reimbursement certificate ("Rückforderungsbeleg").
  2. Pay the bill within the payment period mentioned on the bill.
  3. Send all required documents to or by post to: Gemeinsame Einrichtung KVG, Industriestrasse 78, 4600 Olten)
    - original invoice without payment slip
    - the reclaim receipt (Rückforderungsbeleg) (see an example)
    - a copy of your European Health Insurance Card (back side)
    - a confirmation of matriculation at ETH
    - a copy of the decree (Verfügung) you received from the Health department when your exemption request was approved
    - your bank details.
  4. Wait for the money to be paid to your account.

B) Hospital treatment

If you have been treated in a hospital, the bill is directly sent to the Gemeinsame Einrichtung KVG. In this case you will receive the bill for the deductible/cost contribution directly from Gemeinsame Einrichtung KVG. You have to pay that bill and cannot claim anything back!
