Ultra-porous metal foams for efficient cooling

By 2030, a staggering 10% of the entire global energy consumption will be used for the cooling of electronic devices. Considering the energy shortages caused by the current political situation and the ambitious emission reduction targets necessary to combat climate change, the world is in dire need of more efficient cooling systems. This is where Apheros comes into play. We have developed a new, patented technology for the production of metal foams for cooling solutions. These foams combine the features necessary for effective cooling: extremely high surface area - 1000 times larger than the gold standard - and great thermal conductivity. Apheros’ foams have already proven three times more efficient than current cooling solutions and are already in testing with a number of academic and industrial partners. The foams also display robust mechanical properties that make them interesting for a variety of other applications, such as electrodes and catalysis substrates.
